Hi all, i will be flying from Orlando to Singapore end January. Need to transfer flight at New York. i will have approx. 9 hours to wait for the flight to Singapore. Anyone can recommend or suggest what can I do during this 9 hr? is it possible to go to the city area? far?
thanks!
What to do with 9 hr at JKF Terminal, New York?
The important question here is ';do you have to transfer your luggage from one airline to another?'; If it is all one airline, and you don%26#39;t have to worry about the luggage, the answer becomes much, much simpler.
What to do with 9 hr at JKF Terminal, New York?
It takes slightly over an hour each way...so 9 hours should be more than enough time to get to the city and back..even if there is a minor delay.
As GWB mentions, as long as you don%26#39;t have to worry about your luggage, it will be easier. In Jan. of 2005, I was doing a workshop one weekend at a church in Freeport on Long Island. The person traveling with me had never been to NYC, so we wanted to at least go into the city.
We got on the LIRR at around 3:00 on Saturday. We got to Penn Station and walked to the Empire State Building. We waited in line to go up. We got to the top at sunset - amazing. After we came back down, we took the subway to Tribeca and then walked past Ground Zero and on to Staten Island Ferry. Did the round trip ferry and then took a taxi to Times Square. Ate some cheap Chinese food overlooking the lights of Times Square and made it back to Penn Station for the trip back to LI. We were back in Freeport at around 10:00.
So, as long as you watch your time, you can get in and do a few things. I would recommend Top of the Rock (less of a wait than ESB); see Times Square; quick tour of Grand Central Terminal; do as much walking around just looking as time allows.
Just be sure that you allow time to get through security when you return to JFK for your flight to Singapore. (I don%26#39;t remember what the current recommendation is for international flights at JFK -- check with your airline.)
If you have never been to NYC then this is your golden opportunity for a quick explore of this great city. You can get from JFK to midtown in approx 45-50 mins via the AirTrain and subway so 9 hours you will have plenty of time. This is as long as you are not carrying your luggage.
thanks everyone for the suggestions %26amp; recommendations... got a clearer view now...
it%26#39;s my first time to NYC, so will really likes to check-out the city this time round (it%26#39;s a business trip to Orlando).
i do need to change airline, from a domestic to SIA. So, i will need to carry my luggage. But I was thinking of deposit it somewhere in the terminal... have not check out yet thou...
thanks again for letting me know that i will be having enough time to explore the city...
