Novotel or Paramount Hotel

Hello,

My husband and I will be going to NY for a weekend. Which hotel would be best? We want to be in the Time Square area within walking distance of restaurants, shopping, and bars. Thanks!

Novotel or Paramount Hotel

Hi there,

Novotel is a good chain of hotels, pretty modern and decent size rooms. The Paramount has had pretty bad reviews and rooms are tiny. I would deff go for the Novotel if you can get a good rate.

Wendy, you couldn%26#39;t pay me to stay at the Paramount and the Novotel is looking pretty tired; have you scoped out the reviews here (and looked at the traveler pics) at TA for each of them?

With restaurants %26amp; bars being of interest to you %26amp; since you%26#39;re not looking to spend lots of money on a hotel room, consider the Upper West Side, where there are lots of shops too -- and not just the kind you%26#39;ll see anywhere. From there, it will be a quick ride on the 7th Avenue subway line down to, e.g., Times Square or Macy%26#39;s. On The Ave is presently offering, via its own website, 30% of its best rates for 2009 bookings; the Hotel Beacon has also been showing some attractive rates. Both of these would be superior accommodations to either the Novotel or the Paramount -- with a better selection of eateries and bars than is in Times Square.

If you%26#39;re intent on staying in Times Square, the Westin is available many nights through April for $189/night via this offer posted on Travelzoo, but you%26#39;ll need to make the reservation by Friday, January 9:

The Westin is huge and rather sterile imo, but many TripAdvisor travelers are quite enthusiastic about it.

you have to be a certain type to like the Paramount. Smallest rooms I ever seen. I had a free room there and paid to stay at another hotel. If you want cool in times square the Night Hotel is OK and generally priced well

I agree that neither of these hotels are very good. When are you coming and what is your budget? I assume you realize that you can stay in a lot of other places and still be within walking distance of restaurants, shopping, and bars that are better than the ones in Times Square.

Ok, thank you! No, we do not have to stay in Time Square. It just seemed like the place to stay with the most activity. If we are looking for a hotel where we can walk a few blocks and be at a nice restaurant or a nice bar what area do you suggest? Thanks so much!!!

The best deal out there right now is the Michelangelo hotel on the north side of TS. It is a steal at $225. great rooms, staff and location. Ny Helmsley is good at 195 and the NY Palace is good at 280

We want to stay in a decent, clean place, but the most important thing to us is location. We would prefer not to pay over 200 per night. Again, we are looking for restaurants and cute bars. We don%26#39;t want night clubs or anything like that. Just nice relaxing places to have a drink. :)

Time Hotel 161, 6 Columbus circle 153, Night Hotel 171, Tudar at 179, Fitzpatrick 179, Warwick 199 all good hotel. I got the prices off quickbook and picked a date for the end of this month

When you%26#39;re coming will make a big difference in prices. My friend just got 3 nights at

ontheave-ny.com

on the upper west side for just over $100/night plus tax (15%). It%26#39;s not in Times Square but in a great area for restaurants, bars and even some shopping (discount stores like Loehmann%26#39;s, Filene%26#39;s, Burlington Coat Factory- plus Sephora and others).

On travelzoo.com 70 Park Avenue, Carlton on Madison, Shelburne Murray Hill and Four Points Sheraton Chelsea are all under $200 for the next few months but some offers are just for weekends.
