Hi
We are in the very early stages of planning a trip to the East coast of America. There are a few things we would like to do around Toronto before heading south on the east coast. Can anyone help me with suggestions of the most cost effective way of travelling from New York to Toronto? We were thinking of flying into Toronto and the driving down to Miami to fly out, during a four week trip. We were told mixing Canda and US is not cost effective way when flying from Australia.
Any suggestions would be great.
Thanks,
Kim
New York to TorontoKim - The challenge you are going to run into is that if you try to hire a car (rent a car as we say) in Toronto and return it in Miami, well, it is a Canadian registered car. I realize you can%26#39;t drive from Melbourne to Auckland (I%26#39;ve flown Trans-Tasman) but it would be a similar concept. They wouldn%26#39;t really want the car returned in Auckland, another country.
What you can do is you can make Buffalo your airport and car rental location for Toronto.
jetBlue and several other airlines fly frequent daily flights between New York and Buffalo. Buffalo is about an hour and a half from Toronto and it is significantly more cost-effective.
You can take a rental car from Buffalo to Toronto. You can take the same car to Florida and potentially pay much less. In the autumn months you can usually get pretty reasonable rates to return cars in Florida because they need more cars in the Northeast in the summer, fewer in the winter, the opposite in Florida.
You can do a Sydney - New York / Miami - Sydney *or* you could do a Sydney - Toronto / Miami - Sydney. If you started in Sydney I%26#39;d suggest flying to New York before picking up the car as you really don%26#39;t want a car in and around New York City.
Any questions, just ask...
New York to TorontoThanks for your speedy reply. We did think this could be a problem. But you have given us something to consider, as I said only very early planning so we will add that to the mix and see what we can come up with.
Thanks again.
Hi,
Is the Maple Leaf train an option to consider from New York to Toronto the cost on the website says $369 for 4 adults?
Thanks Kim
We flew with Porter Airlines back in the summer from Toronto to New York. They fly from downtown Toronto rather than Pearson airport. I think we paid about 50 Canadaian dollars each one way. Excellent service.

The train is not reliable. LAN is a new airline that flies b/w Toronto %26amp; NYC for about $100/person one way, so not much more than that train price (unless that was a roundtrip fare) and infinitely easier. Use kayak.com
for flight info.
