My family is once again planning our annual Winter get away and once again I turn to all the very helpful people on this sight, Ok here is what I think we want to do ( It does depend on my replies) ...
Please help me plan my escape from the heat! Family of 5 (2 adults / 3 teenagers 16,16 %26amp; 17) traveling/ driving from S. Florida in late Jan. we have 12 days total, I know crazy but it%26#39;s back to work! Have done it many times before and it%26#39;s all in the fun getting there too. I have heard snow is abundant here, it is beautiful,, love mountains... since that is what we are looking for sounds perfect.
*First where to stay? I like to rent out a cabin in the mountain away from it all. around 250.00 - 350.00 nightly.any suggestions. possibly around a snow tubing area.
*What to do? What we must see. Ok, we don%26#39;t ski but enjoy the snow ! Sled ride, tube, snowmobile %26amp; sight see.
What is a good area to achieve all of the above?
I thank you all in advance and can%26#39;t wait to hear from you. Any and all suggestions !
Have a Great New Year !
Winter family get away/Mountain cabin /must see's. Help!I%26#39;m not sure how late in January you will be there, but the winter carnival in Lake Saranac is early February (http://www.saranaclake.com/carny.shtml). Never been, but I%26#39;d like to go.
I%26#39;m pretty sure there is tubing at Gore Mountain (close to Lake George), not sure about Whiteface (near Lake Placid/Wilmington).
You can see if anything at the Olympic venues interests you (ice skating, tours, museum, etc): http://www.orda.org/
Winter family get away/Mountain cabin /must see's. Help!Great advice from the above poster.
Also, West Mountain has great tubing.
Lake George has a fantastic winter festival in late January and early February.
Also, Old Forge is fantastic for snowmobiling.
I would suggest looking for cabin rentals on www.adkbyowner.com. HTH.
