recommendations for restaurants near Chambers Hotel?

Could you recommend one or two places for a good dinner or lunch near the Chambers Hotel (or within several blocks)? We have only one night in NYC, and perhaps we are looking for the wrong thing in that part of town, but we are looking for something small with a kitchen that turns out well-cooked food based on high-quality ingredients; the type of cuisine is not as important as long as things are well-done. Any thoughts on Chambers%26#39; own restaurant? Thank you!

I%26#39;ve never been to Town in the hotel. I know the bar is quite a scene there. You might check reviews on yelp.com

Here are some from menupages

If you%26#39;re really into food and only here for 1 night, not sure that%26#39;s what I would pick. Right near your hotel are some of the best restaurants in the city including

Le Bernardin (fish/French) very expensive but worth it with a prix fixe lunch for $65

The Modern and the Modern Bar inside MOMA (museum of modern art) Both are excellent.

Also nearby is Michael%26#39;s, one of my favorites. California cuisine. Again expensive but good people watching. It%26#39;s a power spot for lunch.

Asiate in the Mandarin Oriental hotel has great views, very good food. They also have a prix fixe lunch (2 courses) M-Fri for $24! Weekend brunch is $48. Jean Georges in the same area is also very good.

If you want a smaller more intimate type place, I think you have to leave midtown.

The Chambers is at 15 West 56th Street, in the heart of midtown Manahttan. Within a 15 minute walk are literally hundreds of restaurants. I don%26#39;t know why you think finding a good, small, high-quality restaurant would be the ';wrong thing'; in midtown Manhattan. Do you have the name of the hotel wrong, or are you just entirely unfamiliar with New York City?

Town, in your hotel is excellent. But, I%26#39;d check out the menu in advance if I were you - it may not appeal to some tastes.

Also, check out Alto on 53rd between 5th and Madison. Excellent, but not cheap Italian.

Also Atelier de Joel Robuchon in the Four Seasons Hotel is worth checking out. They did away with their (price fixed) lunch but its counter seating around an open kitchen (or tables, but the counter is the place to be) from an amazing Michelin starred chef. Excellent food, but again, very pricey.

nywhiz: thank you very much for your helpful notes. We had stayed in Midtown before and found plenty of shops and restaurants but most somewhat non-descript. So this time, we thought that a query to the local experts might help us uncover some ';neighborhood'; gems that out-of-towners might not know about otherwise. (We are there this time again for a very specific reason and thus need to be nearby.) Again, many thanks!

evening %26amp; nywhiz: Thank you both for your very helpful recommendations. We now have something to work with!

Just a quick follow-up to let everyone know that we ended up having dinner at Town and lunch at MOMA. The food at both was very good and fun to enjoy! Thank you for your very helpful recommendations!!!
