Brooklyn/Harlem accommodation

Hi There!

I am seeking to rent decent accommodation cheaply, either in the Brooklyn or Harlem areas of New York City for a few months. Preferably a two bedroom place with a kitchen for my next visit to the Big Apple. I do not mind a residential area as long as it is safe! I am on a tight budget so nothing too expensive please!

I have some ideas for places to stay in Harlem but nothing for Brooklyn.

Can you please advise? Ideally looking for somewhat urban area, close to amenities/public transport and somewhere that is not going to freak us out while walking in the dark.

Any accommodation and areas to avoid??
