EWR to Statue of LIberty day tour??

I have 1 day/night in New York ON THE 31st Jan. I am staying at EWR airport hotel. I have seen various tours and ways to get into Manhattan, but what I would ideally like to do is the following, if anyone has any advice:

Transfer (taxi, bus, metro) from airport to New Jersey ferry side to get boat passing Statue of Liberty that drops us off at battery park so we can then work our way up to Midtown and get train back to EWR?

Is this possbible? Approx costs?

Thanks in advance!

It is possible but it sounds like a royal pain in the back side. You do not want a tour for this.

What you want to do is consider staying in Manhattan or in Jersey City NJ.

NY Waterway operates the ferries you are speaking of however there are fewer ferries on weekends.

You can have a look at the NY Waterway website, www.nywaterway.com

Public transport from Newark Airport to where most of the boats leave from (around Jersey City) would involve taking a hotel courtesy shuttle from your hotel back to the airport where you%26#39;ll get AirTrain Newark to the Rail Transfer Station (takes less than five minutes). You%26#39;ll get a NJ Transit train from Newark Airport to Newark Penn (the train takes another five minutes but you might have to wait 20 minutes for this one). At Newark Penn you%26#39;ll transfer to the PATH train. Get off the PATH train at Exchange Place and walk to the ferry. See, this is a pain.

Better to stay in Jersey City or Manhattan if you can.

Let us know if you have any questions.

EWR to Statue of LIberty day tour??

thanks for your quick response!!

it just seemd a more logical (sort of) roundtrip way of doing it??

Everything else I want to see is in one area - central park/timessquare/empire/and a bit of 5th avenue

I will be in manhattan around 2.30 and want to see statue of liberty in daylight, not sure bout new york but in the uk its dark at 5pm just now

I just worry how much time will be taken up travelling from the midtown area to battery park and back again?

dont want to stay out too late as we will be on uk time and our onward flight is early next morning.

It%26#39;ll be exciting to be in New York City, you%26#39;ll have some adrenaline, you won%26#39;t be falling asleep at 7:00PM, trust me.

You could inquire how much a taxi would cost to get you to the NY Waterway departure point. You won%26#39;t see a great deal of the Statue of Liberty though.

It%26#39;ll start getting dark around 4:45PM - 5:00PM and it will be dark by 5:30PM at that time. Times are approximate.

You%26#39;ll get to do some things but not everything.

You%26#39;ll really have to plan another trip to New York when the weather is warmer and come for five days.

Best to probably stay on the NJ Transit train and come right into New York Penn rather than mess with the PATH and the ferry, I%26#39;m sorry to say.

To see the Statue of Liberty you don%26#39;t have to go to New York at all. You can do it from Liberty State Park or the Newark bay Extention of the turnpike. I would reccomend a cab to LSP from your hotel.

The JC link will have all the info about the Statue of Libety and LSP.

This is the correct link. Sorry about that.

Have you thought about staying in NYC????..and perhaps pricelining a hotel.

I have done this several times and stayed at the Hilton Midtown, Crowne Plaza Times Square, and Millenium Times Square..each time under $120.

Hotwire.com also has several 3* hotels (that have been identified at betterbidding.com) in Midtown Central, Times Square and the Empire State Building area for around $100 a night.

Stay in there and tour yourself!!! Why not do that?

Even see a broadway show..go to broadwaybox.com and get super discounted tickets.

I have done this several times and it is great!

i dont really want to stay in nyc as our flight is at 9am next morning and the convienience of being right at the airport makes that a little easier. if i was staying longer i would book something in the centre.

i just thought i would try and make the most of our lay over as i couldnt get a same day flight. i dont even think i could count the number of times i have been in ny and not left the airport once!!

i will most likely do one of the hop on hop off bus tours but wonder how long it will actually take to get from central park area to battery park or is the metro the way to go??

All you will need for touristy stuff is the ';N line'; subway or local buses.. will take you walking distance to anywhere.

Buy a 1 day Funpass for 7 dollars at the Info Center in Times Square. Maybe available at metro stations too, but you might have to ask for them. It will let you have unlimited rides for the day and is good until 2AM.

Read this article for some nice insight on getting around the city.
