Which hotel?

Hi All

We are planning our first trip to New York in November 2009. We are a couple in our early 30%26#39;s. Whilst in NY we will be hoping to visit to name but a few the American Museum of Natural History, the United Naions HQ and Grand Central Terminal. We hope to take in a Broadway show, possibly go to a comedy show, spend time in Central Park and see some of the fantastic buildings in New York. We are also going to get married.

My question to you is which of the following hotels would you choose. I have a really good price for flights and hotel for 6 nights in both the Rockefeller Center Hotel and the Affinia Dumont. Reviews for both on tripadvisor are good. All we are looking for is a comfortable bed with a good shower. From my research hotel rooms in NY don%26#39;t offer huge amounts of space and this is not a problem as we don%26#39;t plan on spending much time in the hotel.

Any advice wuld be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hi

We stayed in the Affinia Dumont January last year (wish I was there right now!) Good size rooms with extremely comfortable beds and bedding (including a pillow menu)and good size bathrooms with a nice shower. The separate kitchens are great too and really useful. Staff are friendly and ultra efficient. Views from the higher rooms are amazing; we were on the 23rd floor and had a fantastic Manhattan skyline view including the Chrysler Building (check out the photos of views on the hotel reviews) If you do book, make sure you specify that would like a high room. We never had the blinds down once during our 4 day stay - amazing to go to sleep and wake up to that skyline!

The hotel is centrally located without being in the thick of the tourist areas. It%26#39;s close to ESB and Penn Station and is an excellent location whether you want to walk everywhere or take the subway. Good restaurants and bars in the area too.

Can%26#39;t comment on the Rockefeller Center Hotel I%26#39;m afraid, but is a busier area than E34th street. I%26#39;m dying to go back to NYC and will definitely book the Affinia Dumont again.

Hope that helps

Correction - we were on the 31st floor, not the 23rd!

have to agree with the previous post. we stayed at the affinia dumont as part of our honeymoon back in october and found the hotel to be fab. the room sizes are massive, the seperate kitchen is so handy even if its for only storing milk or juices or snacks. the views are amazing, we were on the 33rd floor with a corner room, one view was over the east river the other view was the manhattan skyline which was fab, especially at night, tryed taking photos of it but the photos didn%26#39;t do the actual view any justice at all

the location of the hotel is ideal as well. its in a really nice residential area of manhattan yet only a few minutes walk from the thick of it. the staff are really friendly and helpful espceially when asking about restaurent recommendations.

The services in the hotel are nice too. a newspaper was hanging on our day every week day morning which my husband enjoyed. the pillow menu seemed a nice idea too but we never availed of it. we never needed to the bed was so comfy anyway. me being the big wooly head brought the wrong adaptor so i thought we wouldn%26#39;t be able to charge our phone. i phoned down to reception wondering would they have an adaptor, but they done better than that they asked us what make and model were our phones and they would see if they had a charger that would fit and sure enough they had one for us free of charge for our stay.

would defo recommend the affinia dumont and would go back in a flash
