Almost there...

Finally booked our hotel last night. Staying at the New York Palace for 5 nights 28th Jan - 2nd Feb...ONLY 25 days to go hurrah.

Booked River Cafe for the Friday night, also may do the Gangs of New york walking tour on the Thurs. Otherwise itinery is still very sketchy, but we pretty much know what we do and don%26#39;t want to see.

Just want to thank everyone who posts on this site, as even though I am quite a silent member all the posts are really helpful. Even the ones where people ask how much a cab is from airports, so I now know not what to ask LOL.

Almost there...

Given the trendy hotels you were originally looking at and questions about dive bars, the NY Palace is certainly an....interesting.... choice. It%26#39;s a lovely hotel in a very central location but couldn%26#39;t possibly be more traditional and staid. Just a heads up. ;)

Almost there...

I know!! We did have some nice boutique hotels on our list, but the Palace looked nice, plus the price had reduced a lot compared to the Bryant Park %26amp; Bowery. Plus the room is only held, so we can always cancel if the prices drop on the other hotels (learning a lot from this forum!!)

I think the Palace is gorgeous but I worry you may find the hotel and the neighborhood it%26#39;s in a bit too serious. I don%26#39;t know what price you have for the Palace, but if you want to stay in midtown, here are some trendier hotels. Found all prices on quikbook except the London which is from their website

6 columbus $185

Royalton $241-296

Chambers $283

London $295

I really think you might be happier downtown. Here are some trendy hotels in different downtown locations that I think are decent prices (all from quikbook).

Smyth queen superior $185 king $215 king deluxe $230

Hotel on Rivington basic king w b/f $227 regular king w b/f $239

Thompson LES $235

Duane St. $237

Cooper Square (brand new) $255 high floor queen

Gansevoort $255 superior queen

Soho House $255

thank you! You truly are a whiz. I will take a look at your list and do some research %26amp; comparisons.

the rate we reserved at was $225 + tax a night at the palace

$225 for the Palace is a bargain, I must admit. It%26#39;s just a question of whether the style of the hotel and the location will suit you if you%26#39;re more casual and like dive bars. ;) I%26#39;m not trying to dissuade you, just giving you some options. ;)

PS where did you find that amazing rate? I assume you know tax is on top of these prices? (+15%)

we got that rate from their website, but yes they did add tax on after you select the rate, but still quite reasonable. Have started to look at the ones in your list and so far they look good. Will let you know what we decide on.
