Hi all,
having an absolute ball in your fabulous city.
We were hoping to go to Chinatown for a yum cha on Sunday and thought the wiz et la might have a good suggestion for us.
Will post a proper trip report when we get home but for now its off to Central Station for oysters and the whispering gallery.
Thanks in advance,
Kath

Yum Cha suggestions
If you search for ';dim sum'; you%26#39;ll find many, many recommendations. Since yum cha is Cantonese--I think!--you%26#39;ll probably be happiest at a Cantonese place, like Cantoon Garden:

Yum Cha suggestions
Thanks Crans, we will give that a go,
Kath
I have no idea what yum cha is. There was a restaurant called Yumcha but it%26#39;s closed. If it%26#39;s dim sum, Jing Fong, HSF, Sweet%26amp; Tart, Golden Unicorn are the go to places.
Wiz, in Melbourne it%26#39;s yummy (mostly steamed, althuoou some fried)things on trollys.Like a Chinese version of Tapas. Is that what dim sum is here?
Kath
Yes.
Btw, Whiz, HSF is closed:

No!!!! this is very bad news. Dare I say it, but I am going to have to try the places I%26#39;ve resisted because of the names/style - Dim Sum a Go Go and Chinatown Brasserie?
Yes, do say ';dim sum'; if you mean things going past on rolling carts, and the bill added up based on how many dishes you get.
Jing Fong is great if you get there early (say, 11:00-11:30), but if you get there late (1:00) a lot of the food will be cold. I was not overly impressed by Golden Unicorn. I used to like (although have not been in a while, and so cannot say they are still there!) the Nice Restaurant on East Broadway.
Im wondering if the new place will be the same staff, just different owners? Or updated name?
I%26#39;ll give Jin Fong another shot, but I am really fine with ordering off the menu at Noodletown. I must have just ';known'; because I picked up a bunch of frozen dim sum at Hong Kong Supermarket last weekend.
Thanks all,
we will give one of the suggested ones a go and report back.
Loved Grand Cenrtral Staion (Terminal?) Strange stepping into such a familiar space that you%26#39;d never been in before!
Had delicious oysters and loved the whispering gallery.
Off to Liza at the Palace...What a city
