Hi, I am hoping someone will let me know their opinion of this walk through Greenwich Village that is recommended in the Frommer%26#39;s Guide. Please feel free to comment on any changes that you may make. This is one area of NYC that we have not been to as of yet, and hope to include it on our trip in February.
The following route is what the guide suggests.
Start at Washington Mews and see Washington Square Park. Take Washington Place to Barrow Street. Continue to Commerce Street to Hudson St. to Grove St. Continue up Bleeker street to finish at the Magnolia Bakery.
Advice is welcome! How would your tour of Greenwich Village differ?
We would like to combine it with a shopping trip in Soho. There are a couple of stores that we want to return to ...Temo and Yellow Rat Bast.
Thanks in advance for you help.
Greenwich Village Walking Tour?
It%26#39;s fine, but one of the pleasures of the West Village is getting lost down its many picturesque streets, so I wouldn%26#39;t hesitate to deviate from it if something catches your eye.

Greenwich Village Walking Tour?
thanks Crans for all the information that you put together for us. I will check all that out. Looking forward to coming in February.
The book ';Frommer%26#39;s 24 Great Walks in New York'; also has good tours of both the West Village and the East Village.
First, there are essentially two different Villages, East and West. The West village is known for its quaint streets, little shops and has more of a gay vibe to it. The East village is somewhat dowdier, but has edgier stores. Both are well worth walking around.
To me, the best walking tour of either the East or West village is merely to set out and wander around. See where your legs, eyes, nose and heart take you. It is not an area of great monumental sights, but rather a neighborhood of small wonders. My advise would be to spend a day just wandering around both east and west. You%26#39;ll see great architecture, shop in small stores, and eat in good %26#39;non-chain%26#39; restaurants.
ENJOY
There%26#39;s a new website for the east village -
www.east-village.com In the history section, there is a good walk down St Mark%26#39;s Place
Iknowcool - i would highly recommend the walking tour of greenwich village, i did it on the 21st december in the freezing cold but still had a fab time, your learning about the area whilst stopping for different types of food, which were all yummy. Again highly recommended.
Thank you to everyone for your input and suggestions. We will absolutely take in the East Village as well. Who knows where our feet will go....
thank you.
