Looks like they only ask for additional cash upfront if you%26#39;re paying for the room in cash, not with a credit card.

This is a common practice for hotels here in the States as they want to have some additional money on hand should you incur incidental charges, beyond the basic room rate, such as in-room movie/video game rentals.

At any hotel, you are asked at check in for your credit card to swipe for ';incidentals'; like phone or minibar. Even if you say you don%26#39;t plan to use phone or minibar, they still want security should you in fact wind up using them. If someone has prepaid their room and doesn%26#39;t have a credit card (or won%26#39;t give one) the hotel will then ask for cash. Each hotel has a different amount per day.

If you have a debit card and it gets swiped, that money is put on HOLD on your account and is not available to you to spend. One annoying feature of this debit card thing is it sometimes can take up to 60 days to get that money credited back to your account. The moral of the story is, give the hotel a credit card on check in and don%26#39;t worry.
