We are flying into JFK from Detroit and then carrying on to Ireland. We will land in New York at 3:30 and our flight to Ireland is at 6:30. Does this give us enough time to pick up our luggage and get to another terminal?
Hope someone with experience in this airport can help.
Thanks in advance.
International flight
The difficulty with JFK connecting at different terminals is that you will have to leave one terminal and travel on the AirTrain to another. You will actually have to set foot on NYC soil. Then once you have reached the other terminal you will have go through security again. If you have checked through luggage and all boarding passes issued in Detroit then 3 hours shouldn%26#39;t be a problem at all if all running on time.
But from the sound of your post you are collecting your luggage at JFK and transferring them to your international flight which will mean you have to queue for check-in again. 3 hours does sound abit tight.

Three hours is plenty of time. Usually your bags will be checled through from Detroit (if you are using the same airline).
Where did you buy this flight itinerary (what website)? I think it%26#39;s doable but may be tight. The real problem is should you run into bad weather or other delays on the first flight causing you to arrive later at JFK, you may have a problem. If you bought this all on one ticket, at worst you would be put on the next flight with free seats. But if you bought 2 different tickets (ie Canada to Detroit or NYC and then a different ticket to Ireland) you might not be entitled to be put on another flight without paying more money. Does the airline you%26#39;re flying have a later flight from JFK to Ireland? If yes, I%26#39;d try to book that. If not and the ticket is already purchased, I%26#39;d consider buying trip insurance that would cover costs for delays or should you miss the connection (if that%26#39;s possible at this point).
As the other posters noted, it would be useful to know what airline/airlines you%26#39;re booked on, and whether you booked it as one itinerary or as separate ones.
