I assume majority of shows there is an age restriction for but i wasn%26#39;t sure if there might be a couple that would allow a toddler into? Any sporting events that might be on around this time that we could take a 17 month old? We will be there early April 09.
Cheers
Any shows or similar that you can take a toddler to?There aren%26#39;t any proper musicals or plays that one could/would take a toddler to, but yours might like something like the Gazillion Bubble Show:

In April, baseball will be starting (the Yankees and the Mets).
Any shows or similar that you can take a toddler to?See what is playing at The New Victory during your trip. They have great programming.
Check out the extensive Events Calendar at GoCityKids - New York -- and look again just before you leave or after you arrive; more events get posted closer in time:

Not sure about age restrictions, but overall I would try to think of what your child might really enjoy and what the folks seated close to you will deal with if your child does not enjoy.
In addition to gocitykids.com, take a look at the Kids section of the Time Out New York website (www.timeout.com/newyork/kids). They also publish a (monthly, I think) magazine (Time Out New York Kids) that you can buy at newsstands in NYC.
Also, take a look at the Madison Square Garden website (www.thegarden.com). In addition to the MSG arena, they also manage the WaMu Theater (part of the MSG complex), the Beacon Theater (on the upper west side) and Radio City Music Hall. They have some child/family oriented events in April that might be good for your situation (Ringling Brothers, Barnum %26amp; Bailey Circus will be at MSG for part of April, Dora the Explorer Live is at Radio City on April 8-12, and Thomas %26amp; Friends Live is at the Beacon on April 17-19).
http://www.nytheatre.com/nytheatre/kids.htm -- changes frequently, keep checking as your trip approaches
http://www.newvictory.org/shows.m -- though very, very tolerant of small kids, when my kids were toddlers they would not sit for long at all so even these shows may not do it for you
As your trip approaches, see if there%26#39;s anything going on at Madison Square Park https:/鈥efault.aspx -- and btw, they have a lovely playground for little kids and you%26#39;ll love this small, beautiful park at Broadway %26amp; 23rd.
These are fantastic suggestions, thanks so much i will check out the sites recommended!
I had a look at the sporting events and there is a Yankees Game at New Yankee Stadium while we are in NY which my husband was keen on! I played softball when i was younger but never been to a baseball game. How long does the game go for? Would we need to book a seat for our toddler or can we just sit her on our lap and hope she lasts the distance(Hmm... feed her face with food!). Any suggestions on seating that might be cheap or possibly less disruptive to others? :)
Cheers
I can%26#39;t help with advice on tickets, but the average baseball game lasts around 2 hours, 45 minutes. Of course, much depends on the number of runs scored, whether the game goes into extra innings, etc. Beware that demand for tickets to the Yankees games in April may be particularly intense due to the opening of the new stadium.
According to the Yankees%26#39; own web site, you can hold a child under 30'; tall on your lap if you don%26#39;t want to buy a ticket for her/him -- but it wouldn%26#39;t be my idea of a fun way to spend a vacation afternoon ;-)
