We are two families with older children (youngest is 10; five children total) looking for apartment style accommodation in October for a few nights. We would love to be within walking distance of Central Park and other attractions. Any recommendations?
family suites near central parkWe stayed at Affinia 50 right before christmas. We are a family of 5, three boys ages 13,11,8. The room must have been an apartment in a former life! We had a kitchen, tiny, but fully equipped, living room with sleeper sofa and two chairs, dining area, table with 4 chairs, one big bedroom with two queen sized beds and a decent sized bathroom. It was very nice to have so much space.
We walked to Central Park from the hotel. Maybe 2 miles to get all the way to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Subways are really easy and close too. Hotel is about 5 blocks from Rockerfeller Center. Madison Avenue, 5th Avenue, all just a few blocks away. We walked to our Broadway show on 44th and Broadway. I LOVED the location.
Have a great trip!

Stayed here a couple of years ago and staying again in a couple of weeks. Not %26#39;posh%26#39; but clean, tidy and safe. Right round the corner from Time Square and not too far from CP, I think it%26#39;s a great location and it wasn%26#39;t noisy either. You would need two rooms, we had a one bedroom room with two double beds (and a sofa bed in the living room) for the first week and a studio for the second. The one bed was a nice size, kitchenette and dining table should you want to eat in. The only thing I can say negative is that the bathroom was tiny.
As I%26#39;ve just told someone else, I think it%26#39;s very early to be booking for Oct. You won%26#39;t see best rates now. If the economy continues to slide I think prices will drop. Right now all you%26#39;ll see online is ';rack rates.';
Central Park is huge so you%26#39;ll find hotels that are ';near the park'; in several different areas of Manhattan.

are some apt. style places. The Excelsior, the Newton and the Lucerne are regular hotels in that area that also have some suites but may not have kitchens.
At the south end of the park, the Salisbury and the Buckingham are budget suite hotels. Radio City apts. is a bit further from the park.

is a very nice new chain of suite hotels but pricey. They have a Central Park location that%26#39;s just terrific.
Affinia Gardens is the closest Affinia hotel to the park. I assume you%26#39;re not looking for one huge suite to house the 2 families b/c that will be hard. There%26#39;s a nice 3 bedroom apt. on the upper east side that we know of, but it only rents for a week min.

Thank you everyone for your help! We normally book last minute but are trying to avoid disappointment. I%26#39;ll wait a few months to book the rooms. I assume theatre tickets need to be purchased soon though?
If you%26#39;re looking for budget places, those do book in advance. If Radio City apts. is available now, I%26#39;d book that as a cancelable reservation. In fact anything that%26#39;s cancelable is not a bad option.
Theater tix depends on which show you want to see. Wicked, Jersey Boys and Billy Elliot are very popular and never discounted so those should probably be booked. That said, again with uncertain economy, if things get worse we could see unprecedented sales (or even show closings).
