long island islip airport

I%26#39;ve found a great fare which arrives late Saturday evening (10:30 p.m.) at the Long Island Islip airport. Is it reasonable to expect to find a hotel shuttle at that time? How about connections to the LIRR? We%26#39;d like to stay closer to Manhattan, but a hotel in Queens would probably be a better deal for us. How much should we expect to pay in train fare to Manhattan? Are there direct connections?

There are shuttles to the LIRR Ronkonkomoa station Its about a 5 dollar cab ride. the ride to nycity is about an hour and a half there is a train at 1123pm and 1242am. The ride costs 9.50.There are ticket machines in the station use them or you will pay a service charge on board the train. You will need a one way off peak ticket

Islip Macarthur is sixty miles from New York, and does not have good direct transportation to NYC. It is not considered a New York City airport. Philadelphia is not that much further away, and (more to the point) s better connections to New York City. If you don%26#39;t want to fly into a New York City airport, but instead want to fly into one at a considerable distance from New York, you would probably be better off flying into Philadelphia than into Islip. I will also note that it is probably cheaper for you to fly into Cleveland or Indianapolis -- but they aren%26#39;t in New York City, either. If a cheap flight, with no attention paid to where you end up, is the priority, why not go there? On the other hand, if your object is going to NYC, you should probably consider going to a NYC airport, rather than something else miles and miles away.

I don%26#39;t know what kind of hotel shuttle you%26#39;re talking about. There are some hotels right near Islip that have shuttles if you want to spend that first night near the airport and go to Manhattan the following morning. Right near the airport is a good La Quinta hotel. Not sure about shuttle service but it%26#39;s really close.

But otherwise, there are no hotels in Manhattan with airport shuttles to any of the airports.

Whether this is a good idea depends on how much are you saving vs. flying into one of the regular NY airports (ie JFK, LGA, EWR) and how much time you have. It%26#39;s not a bad option to stay that first night near the airport but what about the return? Getting back to Islip will eat up a day of your vacation. You can get a car service to/from Manhattan (or Queens) for about $100 in each direction.

Yes, the LIRR is the usual option, but arriving at 10:30, if your flight is at all delayed, you could miss the train. If you%26#39;re going to stay at a hotel in Queens, getting to it from ISP by train at that hour will not be simple. Most LIRR trains stop at Jamaica in Queens before going into Manhattan, but from there, you%26#39;d need to take a subway to a hotel. YOu can%26#39;t expect to hail a cab in Queens at that hour.

Where in Queens were you thinking of staying?

I%26#39;d stay in islip the first night, get a cheap hotel, then take the train in in the morning. You will be well rested and start fresh on sunday. Staying in Manhattan will make your vacation more fun and easier as well, but hotel prices will be higher. If you decide to stay in Queens make sure that the hotel is near a subway station.

What are the dates of your trip? If it%26#39;s for tommrow and you don%26#39;t have a hotel booked I%26#39;d get right on it now.

Here is srom McArthur airport (Islip - ISP):

Taxi to the Ronkonkoma Railroad Station (Long Island Railroad). Then train to Penn Station in Manhattan, then taxi to your hotel. If you pick a hotel in Queens you might be better off taking the train to Jamaca Station in Queens (most LIRR trains stop there) and taking the subway to your hotel. Ronkonkoma is about 50 miles from Manhattan. You can find Long Island Railroad information and schedules on the web at www.mta.nyc.ny.us/lirr

I really don%26#39;t mean to upset the powers that be...but I do have to disagree. Islip airport can be closer than JFK or LGA depending on traffic. Thousands upon thousands of people load onto the LIRR to commute each and every day for Islip. This is very doable. Like others have said timing is everything. LI is a suburb of the city. Therefore, the trains, buses and public transportation is really only available during business hours. If you were able to fly in to Islip at 10 pm... money no object.. and get a car service to the city...you would be there in an hour. My husband does it each and every day.

If you want to fly into Islip at that hour, miss the LIrr, hire a car or get a hotel, those extra costs might offset any of those savings. This is airport isn%26#39;t that far, but it isn%26#39;t that easy to get to during ';off'; hours.

Consider all options and that is what this forum is all about...any more questions...please ask!!!!!!!!!!
