Hi there,
I am flying into La Guardia next month.
How much of a delay can I be expecting arriving in to/departing out of La Guardia??
I%26#39;ve heard the delays are insane.
Also, does anyone know if La Guardia is at a higher risk of having baggage lost?
La Guardia
Depends on the weather, and of course where to what location you%26#39;re flying. Recently I flew to D.C. and we left 5 minutes early; I%26#39;ve also been stuck at LGA for hours trying to get to Miami.
Bring a good book and some money for snacks in any event.
Don%26#39;t know about luggage... I think it depends on the airline.
La Guardia
I have flown into LaGuardia for the last 4 years. So far, very good luck with arrival times and flights. Each experience has been positive.

BTW each trip was during either Thanksgiving or Christmas/Holiday seasons when air traffic is normally heavier.
It%26#39;s difficult to say how the delay situation will be, as it is often weather determined. This is not only due to the weather at LGA, but also the weather in connecting hub cities.
The problem with LGA is that there is no effective public transportation to and from. There are only infrequent, sporadic and inconvenient buses. Your only real choice is to take a cab or car service.
Who knows what the baggage gods have in store. Hope you and your bags have similar itineraries.
Delays ????? I don%26#39;t understand ..... who said to expect delays ????? If the planes consistently leave/arrive late then is it really a %26#39;delay%26#39; of just poor scheduling on the part of the person that calculated the arrival and departure time? Here%26#39;s a general idea ..... right now as we speak ..... according to the official FAA website there is JUST an average of a ';two hour and five minute'; delay at LaGuradia Airport

The correct answer is that LaGuardia Airport has the most delays in the country ..... thank you.

Lost Luggage ????? A better question would be; ';Do you really need much luggage if you%26#39;re only gonna sitting for hours in the airport because of the long delays?';
Right on, Lotus! I knew three months in advance that I was hopping a Northwest flight at 12:30 on Dec ember 17th. But for some reason the airline didn%26#39;t know it. We were delayed at LaGuardia almost 2 hours waiting for a crew. There was no bad weather in NYC or where the flight originated at to blame it on either. Just poor planning.
All three New York area airports are scheduled over-capacity. This means that there are more flights to land and take-off in certain one hour increments than the airport can possibly handle. This results in delays. The airlines factor some of the delays into their schedules. When Chicago and much of the Midwest is paralyzed with snow and you are flying in from Toronto on a clear day in NYC, you%26#39;ll arrive 20 minutes early.
When New York has snow, rain, fog, etc. there will certainly be delays.
You can minimize your chances of being delayed by trying to book morning flights or come in at off-peak times. Friday at 5:00PM on a stormy evening is likely to be bad.
LaGuardia isn%26#39;t significantly worse for mishandled luggage than any other airport. Don%26#39;t worry about it but be prepared for the possibility of delays. We live here, we deal with it, you%26#39;ll be okay.
Dreamin ..... you certainly have a keen eye for great wisdom. But here%26#39;s what I don%26#39;t get ..... if there%26#39;s a 6:30 flight and they know it%26#39;s gonna be 15 minutes late then why don%26#39;t they just call it a 6:45 flight and say they made a printing error on the ticket? Then people wont feel so bad.
Ive used LGA almost exclusively for the past 18 months and the only delay was 45 minutes heading to Chicago. All my horror stories went down at JFK.
