Looking for Romantic NYC Hotel for 35th Wedding Anniversary

Looking for suggestions for a hotel that%26#39;s classic %26amp; romantic but not too pricey, for the 2nd week in January for our 35th Wedding Anniversary. We%26#39;re thinking about the Midtown/Theatre District area. Any thoughts about the ';Algonquin';? Any suggestions and/or comments would be most appreciated! Thanks

Algonquin is very nice. I%26#39;d say the hotel is romantic but maybe not the rooms. It%26#39;s old and historic which = small bathrooms and no views.

If you%26#39;re talking about next week, have a look on travelzoo.com where there are a lot of good sales. The Warwick is classic and near theaters but the Westin is nicer/newer and will have views. I%26#39;d also check the prices at the Sofitel and the London. Both are very nice.

70 Park and the Carlton on Madison are also very nice with sales on travelzoo but not near theaters.

I like the Iroquois. It%26#39;s next to the Algonquin and the Sofitel. It%26#39;s nice, rooms are small but I think they%26#39;ve been re-done recently. We stayed there 10 years ago and loved it. We also like 70 Park Avenue Hotel near GCT. Again, small rooms but they have a subtle sexy vibe.

I don%26#39;t really know what makes a hotel romantic in NYC, but 2 lodging choices that fascinate me are:

1. The Desmond Tutu Center (it was a rectory and the grounds look beautiful to me: private estate meets insane asylum or something, but it%26#39;s intriguing anyway)

2. The Abingdon Guest House

I love that after 35 years you%26#39;re both still willing to keep the romance going in your marriage. Congratulations!

oops. neither of the 2 last recommendations I made are near the theatre district, but %26#39;romantic%26#39; and %26#39;theatre district%26#39; aren%26#39;t going together in my mind (as unexpert as it is re: NYC).

Do take a look at the Iroquois, one of my very favorite Manhattan hotels -- and use the Check Rates feature on its TA page:

Looks like you%26#39;ll be able to book one of their Executive King rooms for about $235/night (or a 1-bedroom suite for about ~$350/night) -- larger and more nicely furnished than those at the Alconquin in the same price range for what I%26#39;m guessing are your dates. The suites offer deep Jacuzzi tubs.

I%26#39;m also seeing some good discounting for the Sofitel, including their 1-bedroom suites; aim for a higher floor (the rate descriptions tell you what floors the rooms/suites are on) for a better view, if that%26#39;s part of your description of romantic.
