New Wyndham on W 24th st VS new Wyndham on W 36 st.

I%26#39;ve been holding reservations at both hotels for our Dec 13-17 Mom and adult daughter first trip to NYC.

The Wyndham Midtown is receiving better reviews. Price per nite is around $200 for each. It looks like the Wyndham on 24 is in a quieter location.

I guess what concerns me is which area is going to be safer walking around at night getting back to the hotel from shopping and sightseeing.

I just can%26#39;t decide! Any advice welcome.

Anyone?

They%26#39;re both safe. The midtown one is close to Macy%26#39;s and the shops around Macy%26#39;s but there%26#39;s limited restaurant options in that area. I would much prefer the location on 24th st. which is a real neighborhood with lots of restaurants and shops vs. the 36th st. location which is right near Penn station and is an exit street from the Lincoln tunnel so much more commercial. The location on 24th st. is a half block from the flatiron building. That said, the rooms at the 24th st. location look very small and spare (and bathrooms look small for 2 women) and the place doesn%26#39;t look very cheery.

If the objective is to find a nice hotel for around $200/night, I think there are other options that might be better. I notice the Belvedere has a double double for $200/night but it%26#39;s not one of their renovated rooms. If you don%26#39;t mind the possibility of sharing a queen or king bed, I think you could get a 4* hotel by bidding on Priceline. Hotwire has a 4* hotel in the Empire State area for $199/night which is likely the Morgan or 70 Park. I think of you bid on Priceline for 4* Empire state you might get that for less (maybe $160-175).

West 24th would be my preference. The area is perfectly safe and I think you%26#39;ll like the location alot more.

Yes, I%26#39;ve been thinking about hotwire or PL, but coming in on a busy sat in Dec.I%26#39;m afraid we might end up with one bed that won%26#39;t work for us.

I think I%26#39;ll stick with the 24 st locale.

Any other ideas?

The 24th Street location is in such a great area. You%26#39;ll be a short stroll from Madison Sq. Park, the Shake Shack, Tabla, 11 Madison Park, Gramercy Tavern, Union Square, Fifth Avenue, everything.

I%26#39;m not sure exactly what you%26#39;re looking for in terms of suggestions. The Washington Square Hotel is another hotel that is extremely well-situated and is usually reasonably priced. The Washington Square is across from one of the best restaurants, Babbo.

The new Wyndham on 24th is a very solid choice, you%26#39;re not going to go wrong, I just feel like you%26#39;re looking for us to tell you something but I%26#39;m just not sure what that is.

Probably too late but the 36th location is pretty sketchy as it is a couple blocks west of where anyone wants to stay. The 24th street hotel is a MUCH better location. Both hotels are nice and both are pretty new (Wyndham lists them opening about a month apart from each other in time). I often have dinner near the Wyndham on 24th Street and have walked by it several times and can attest to the location. I have walked by the 36th Street location recently when attending a function at the convention center. Definitely not an area I would enjoy.

The West 36th Street location is right by the on-ramps for the Lincoln Tunnel. The West 36th Street location is a pretty significant hike to restaurants and nightlife. There%26#39;s also so much car traffic around there because of the Lincoln Tunnel.

The West 24th Street location is much more happening, closer to transportation (subways) and has plenty of great restaurants nearby (easier / better walk).

Shake Shack is open this winter, it is in the park near the hotel (the W. 24th St. hotel).
