My girlfriend and I will be travelling to New York in December. We would love to be there for the switch on of the christmas tree. Does anybody know when that would be? Is it correct that its the first Wednesday after Thanksgiving?

That seems to be the general rule. It was in 08. The Rockefeller center website will have that information but they post it around October for that cominh season.
