Hey all, have seen lots of different thoughts on this. I%26#39;m considering using VRBO for a three bed as for three couples its infinitely cheaper then hotels but no one seems to have tried any of the three beds and there are no recommendations on the VRBO site for the ones i%26#39;m interested in (W49TH, W21ST and 50th/3rd). Prices are very reasonable indeed.
Turns out same woman deals with all three which at first comforted me but then made me a little nervous.
Any thoughts much appreciated before I go ahead and book!!
vrbo rental - 3 bedrooms...
Please do yourself a favor and read some of the HUNDREDS of posts on this board about why apartment rentals are illegal in New York, hurt NYC residents and are filled with scam artists. Three bedroom apartments in Manhattan are not common and would cost millions to own (yet this nice woman has a surplus at a great price). This is a scam, VRBO is a listing agency, nothing more. There is nothing to stop someone in Israel from posting an apartment. Hotels for 3 couples may be expensive, but that%26#39;s the way it is. Continue to try to get a ';great bargain'; you get what you deserve, and that is getting scammed because that is what will happen.
vrbo rental - 3 bedrooms...Thanks Bobby C, I have looked through the listings here but equally many people seem thrilled with what was provided to them by Verbo and others. Unfortunately the prices in NYC even booking so far in advance are prohibitive to many and in my case the apart hotels are maximum two bedroom (it isn%26#39;t a holiday for me, rather a family event) and it seems that if you are lucky enough to find the right vacation rental then it makes a lot of sense. I will definitely take note of the warnings on here though and will ask for recommendations. Your advice is appreciated. cdn.tripadvisor.com/img/buttons_en/submit.gif
There are very few 3 bedroom apts. in NYC, period. The only one I know of that%26#39;s decent and legit is here
http://www.vrbo.com/115235
Unless you provide links there%26#39;s no way to tell you anything. Locations mean nothing and vrbo means nothing. Anyone can advertise on vrbo as long as they pay their money.
Yes. VRBO does no verification, so it%26#39;s completely a gamble, and the incidence of scams and illegalities in NYC apartment rentals is VERY HIGH. If you%26#39;re comfortable gambling your money against an apartment that may not exist, may not be the one you think it is, or may end up in some sort of legal battle go ahead, but I really can%26#39;t recommend it.
Thanks all, promise you im legit just trying as is everyone i guess to be smart with my money. I looked at that one you recommended but its minimum a week and i only need 4 days otherwise it looks great. The ones i saw are: 214697, 214719 and 214605 from their website. %26#39;To be fair i know nyc also well enough to wonder if too cheap is too good to be true....
If anyone knows of any suite hotels that do 3 rooms id also be grateful to know. I have a friend who lives in NYC maybe the smart thing is for them to check out the apartments directly....
Like I say thanks to all.....
I think you are crazy to consider any of these. 3 couples all sharing 1 bathroom? Are you serious? It might work at home with everyone on a different schedule, but on vacation? The beds/bedrooms in some of these look tiny. I think some of the photos on the 3rd apt. are rip offs from the first apt. If your budget is under $300/night for 6 people, you should be looking to stay outside Manhattan. Don%26#39;t be penny wise and pound foolish. You should be very nervous.
(p.s to prove im legit im also down as %26#39;us/uktraveller'; and always try and post reviews but forgot my password and my email account died so i had to re-register!!)
214697 looks too good to be true - apartment comes complete with model-quality blonde? Come on.
Hey ... 214719 has the same blonde ... looks like a scammer!
214605 looks a little less immediately suspicious, but the price is still too low and I wonder about the legality. If that%26#39;s a sublet without the landlord%26#39;s permission, for instance, you could find yourself out on the street with no notice ...
