Hello everybody,
We%26#39;re planning to stay 5 nights in New York next summer. What do you think of the Belvedere Hotel? Is it well-situated? Isn%26#39;t it old-fashioned? We are looking for something clean and to get our money%26#39;s worth. We are two girls..so we are looking for a safe place.
If you know this hotel, can you give me your impressions or if you have other suggestions, they%26#39;re welcome!
Thanks in advance,
The Belevedere hotel
It%26#39;s fine - it%26#39;s near all the good food on 9th Avenue. Nowhere in the world is ';safe';. You will be in the safest big city in the US. That having been said, anything a total stranger says will NOT change outcomes in your life. I know you can%26#39;t guarantee my safety around the block from your home and I can%26#39;t guarantee yours but I do like the Belevedere hotel.

';What do you think of the Belvedere Hotel?';
It%26#39;s a good budget hotel in the Times square area.
';Is it well-situated?';
For what would be my question to you. If you%26#39;re planning to see a lot of theater, it%26#39;s well located. It would be considered a good central location.
';Isn%26#39;t it old-fashioned?';
Like many NYC hotels, it%26#39;s in an old building. They recently renovated some if not all the rooms so furnishings are updated but it%26#39;s not new or trendy.

Most any place below about 96 st. in Manhattan will be safe. If you are 35 or less, you might prefer staying either in a trendier hotel in midtown (like 6 Columbus or the Empire) or in a younger neighborhood downtown like Chelsea, the village or Soho where you%26#39;d near near less touristy restaurants. How did you come to pick this hotel?
On our 1st trip to NY we stayed at the belvedere and it was nice enough, big clean room with a fridge/microwave etc. Only real grumble is given the size of the hotel the severe lack of lifts/elevators my top tip for this is run up one flight of stairs and get a lift there as you circumvent the q%26#39;s in the foyet.
all the best

There are lots of new or newish hotels. One of those that%26#39;s in what I think is a great area for 2 young women is the Hampton Inn Soho downtown.
On the Avenue is a more modern hotel and has a terrace for guests which might be nice for the summer.

Thanks for your quick answer.
In fact, it%26#39;s our first visit of New York and we are planning to see as much as possibble in 6 days. We were told Times Square area was the ideal place to stay.
In fact this hotel was suggested by our travel agent. We are looking for a 3/4 star hotel that is not too expensive. If you have other suggestions...
';We were told Times Square area was the ideal place to stay';
NYC is a working city like London, Paris etc. and sights are spread out so no one location is going to be near everything. Times Square is where all the theaters are and it%26#39;s where many tourists like to stay b/c of the bright lights (and travel agents tout it ;), but it%26#39;s not where locals go unless absolutely necessary. It%26#39;s also not the best place to find hotel bargains. I think there are more interesting locations to stay for 2 young women and there are also newer hotels in the Times Square area.
I%26#39;m curious to know how the price on say the Belvedere that the travel agent is offering differs from the price on the hotel%26#39;s own website or on quikbook.com
I think it%26#39;s too early to book for the summer to get best rates.
my husband and I stayed at the Belvedere back in June and LOVED it. Love the location and its proximity to ALL! We are not really tourists (I was born and raised in NY and hubby only lived ';over the river';) so we didn%26#39;t care where we stayed as long as it was nice and clean to celebrate his 50th b%26#39;day! I was extremely happy with our choice.
I don%26#39;t know if the renovation is complete, but be sure to ask for a renovated room when you book. I have stayed at the Belvedere twice - once in 2004, before is was renovated, and even then I liked the room and location. Most recently I stayed in May of 2008, and we were very impressed with the new accomodations. I like the location because the street is very quiet, but you are within walking distance of many restaurants, subways and other popular tourist attractions.
