Hi All
We%26#39;re visiting NY in Feb staying in Times Sq, along side the usual tourist sites, I thought it would be good to spend some time in East Village as my son is a rock musician who appreciates the punk era%26#39;s various bands as well as a unique sense of style. I looked at the Rock %26amp; Roll walking tour that takes in the places related to the Ramones / Punk etc, but they run on days we%26#39;re not available.
So can anyone give me the low down on places of interest for a 15 year old, Punk, Emo, Scene kid please.
Many thanks
East Village for my 15 year Old Punk Rock son
This website probably has much more than he%26#39;ll need to know but you and he can get very familiar with the area AND it%26#39;s history before you go....

The R%26amp;R Hall of Fame Annex in Soho has a Clash exhibit through the Spring.

The Varvatos store still kept some decor from the old CBGGB%26#39;s sapce it now occupies.
Love Saves the Day is a great iconic store. More of a museum than a shop, although everything is up for sale. They have a Myspace page.
Bowery Poetry Club is very alternative and a hub of DIY performance art, but check age restirictions.
You can take the E, F, or R train to the 71st Ave-Continental Ave. station in Queens and see Forest Hills!
Or go to Rock-Rock-Rock, Rockaway Beach! (OK, it%26#39;s a bit too cold for that...)
thanks so much for both replies - really useful
St. Marks place, the bowery, and since you%26#39;re saying he%26#39;s emo, you can always drop him off at Angels %26amp; Kings and see if he can sneak his way in there (it%26#39;s a club owned by that guy from Fall Out Boy).
Ut oh ..... yikes ..... my nephew is one of those Emo. Let me guess ..... shaggy hair, trucker baseball cap, hoodie sweat shirt over a psychedelic t-shirt with thin legged low rise black jeans, broad white belt (with skulls), boxers sticking out of his jeans and Vans sneakers. And ...... does he start crying if you call him an Emo? I can%26#39;t stand it when people start crying on they%26#39;re not even on TV.
Take him to %26#39;Hot Topics%26#39; to shop.
Speaking of St. Mark%26#39;s Place, the shop Trash and Vaudville is a must.
BTW, what instrument does he play? He should def check out Sam Ash Music, Rivington Guitars, Chelsea Guitars, Manny%26#39;s Music, etc.

I have been meaning to ask. I took little chippertex to St Marks street to an interesting neighborhood. Is this considered the East Village?? There were a lot of really funky shops (think used shoe exchange, beads and more beads) We saw some tube/athletic socks (the long tall white ones with colored stripes) He thought they were cool so we bought 3 pair. He%26#39;s really short so they go all the way up his legs. I%26#39;m short too, just not that short and they are like knee highs to me. Either way, I%26#39;m thinking of going for a run in mine just to see the various reactions.
chipper
Yeah, St. Marks is kind of classic EV. Overrun with NYU students (like most of the village these days), but eh, it%26#39;s the best we got left.
OOOH! Also, you should take him out to Williamsburg, in Brooklyn (First stop on the L - Bedford should be good for a first timer). Bedford Ave is the 5th avenue of hipsterdom, and you%26#39;re just a short walk to Beacon%26#39;s Closet, which is THE ultimate emo/hipster secondhand store.
BTW, Beacons Closet is located on North 11th Street in Williamsburg Brooklyn. This is conveniently located across the street from the Brooklyn Brewery. The Brewery is only open during weekends, but if you drop of the kid on Fri, Sat or Sun, you can cross the street and have a few cold ones.
I concur with the above posters about St. Marks. My punker son and 15 YO pierced daughter are frequent denizens of the area. While you are there, you can also see STOMP, a great percussive musical event.
