I will be traveling to NYC with my husband and 8 year old daughter for the Memorial Day weekend. This is our first visit there. I love the feel of an apartment or B%26amp;B better than a hotel. I like being able to park where I can see my vehicle. Any suggestions on a great apt. or B%26amp;B??? My budget is around $215/night...
Thanks for any help!!
Traveling with 8 year old... B%26amp;B??
';I like being able to park where I can see my vehicle.';
Does this mean you%26#39;re intending to park outside said B%26amp;B? This will be a complete hassle you don%26#39;t need. If you%26#39;re driving into the city, dump the car at one of the garages (check out Icon Parking) and forget about it. You don%26#39;t need a car in NYC.
Put the thought of renting an apartment out of your head. Check out the post in the FAQ - most are illegal or worse, scams.
What%26#39;s your budget? Some B%26amp;Bs are:
Wyman House
Jack and Judy%26#39;s
Greenwich Village Home
but I don%26#39;t know if they accommodate 3.

Actually, several of the b %26amp; b%26#39;s mentioned above like Wyman House don%26#39;t accept children. The notion of being able to see your car is just plain ridiculous. In order to park on the street you%26#39;ll constantly be having to move the car. YOu%26#39;ll need to park in a garage and leave the car there for the duration. If you like the feel of an apartment, book an apartment hotel like
radiocityapartments.com
nycsalisbury.com
milburnhotel.com
beaconhotel.com
Once you decide on a hotel, find a garage nearby on
iconparking.com
If you absolutely must have a car here, park it in a garage for the duration. You%26#39;ll thank us in the long run. Find estimates here:

Why not fly?
Why not fly?? Well, because gas for the entire trip is going to be around $100... 3 tickets to fly are around $850. Hm... As far as having a car, we are going to visit other areas besides just the city. Brooklyn is somewhere we want to spend a little time. I just started researching last night so that is why I am relying on this site for a lot info. My total budget for 3 days (2 adults, 1 child) is around $1300. So I need to budget wisely and know what I am spending the money on.
There is subway service to any place in Brooklyn you might like to visit. Driving in NYC unless you%26#39;re really familiar with it is not a great idea and if you do drive to Brooklyn, you will again have a problem parking.
You won%26#39;t find best prices for Memorial Day weekend now. If you want to book something that%26#39;s cancelable radiocityapartments.com
has a studio suite with 2 double beds and kitchen that fits your budget.

Brooklyn is in the city, and most people who live there don%26#39;t have cars. You%26#39;re definitely going to need to park your car in a garage and leave it for the duration of your trip.
To the OP, I understand why you won%26#39;t fly. We are coming in April and we plan on driving up. Flying would cost my family over $1,300. I have been to the city before driving and the only time it%26#39;s good to have the car is if you aren%26#39;t going to be there but for a few hours. Since you are staying a few days, I to agree that parking the car at a nearby garage to the hotel would be much better. We are going to do the same thing you are doing as in driving to other parts of New York and it would help if the car was readily available from the room.
I also agree that the apartment renting thing isn%26#39;t a good idea. As you never know what you%26#39;re going to get.
Stick with hotels that are suites, if that%26#39;s what you are looking for. Like an Embassy Suites type place.
just to ditto the above. I have lived here all my life and there is virtually no place in Manhattan where you will find parking easily that you can see your car. Most areas have limited street parking and ';alternate side'; rules which means that you will have to find a diffent spot every othr day. In most areas meters are in effect all day (till 8, 9, or 10 PM) 6 days a week. (sunday and memorial day excepted). And tickets START around $110. Most of are parking lots are indoor garages where they will take your keys and park the car for you, very few allow self parking. Finally, remember that you CAN NOT make a right turn on a red light anywhere in New York City (unless there is a sign allowing it - which is the opposite of the rest of the country), and again tickets are pricy.
Brooklyn is really hard to drive in if you don%26#39;t know the area, just use the subway. If you want to go to the bronx (Zoo, Botanical Gardens) a car is fine.
There are B%26amp;B%26#39;s in Brooklyn that meet your requirements. You will be able to park your vehicle either on street, or in the driveway. That said, you still do not want to take it into Manhattan. Brooklyn is very accessible by subway.
Check out the TA site for B%26amp;Bs. Also, make sure that you contact the owner to make sure that having an 8 year old is OK. Some B%26amp;Bs do not allow for younger guests.
