islip airport from Manhattan?

I have to travel to New York for business and have two people accompanying me -on me. The hotel prices are killing me by the way. I waited too late to get a good deal on flights and everything else. The only decent flight I could get home on Sunday evening leaves from Islip. Am I crazy to try to take a cab or train to Long Island or is that a normal thing people do? They say it is 50 min. Does anyone now if I am going on Chevy Chase%26#39;s vacation? I don%26#39;t want to be embarrassed in front of clients.

You can take the LIRR to Islip and it will be an easy trip to make. You%26#39;ll probabally have to change at Jamaca (did I spell that right? It looks weird). But other than that the trip is pretty direct. When you get into Islip train station, you%26#39;ll need to grab a taxi to the airport. The airport is small, quiet and nice by the way. I think an hour is about right in time. Certainly JFK or LGA are easier and more convienent. Have you tried Newark? I would not think a cab to Islip would be feasable money-wise if you are trying to cut costs.

check out the link on this forum regarding getting into manhatten from islip. it gave a link for the airport with more information.

There%26#39;s no way I%26#39;d chance Long Island traffic being driven to Islip. It%26#39;s something like 50 miles out of midtown, and there is _always_ traffic on the road getting there.

Islip airport in all fairness doesn%26#39;t really service NYC, it services people who live on Long Island.

I think you%26#39;d be embarrassed to drag clients on the LIRR and then from there a cab or car service to the airport. So the only real option is a limo/car service from wherever you%26#39;re staying to the airport. The car services charge about $120 for a regular sedan

I would leave at least an hour and a half to get there, somewhat dependent on what time of day. (If it%26#39;s late afternoon, consider traffic from matinees, shopping etc.)

If, when you add the price of transportation, it%26#39;s still a price savings, go ahead and do it. One benefit is it%26#39;s a small airport and you%26#39;re not likely to experience flight delays.

But I should add, to my knowledge there are no non stop flights between Islip and New Orleans. So not only are you schlepping these people to a far airport, you%26#39;re also making them change planes? Jet Blue flies JFK to NOLA non stop. I think there are also non-stops on another airline into EWR.

Overall I can%26#39;t see impressing clients by dragging them out to Islip for a cheap flight, regardless of how you get there. It%26#39;s a long way out and most people know that there are far more convenient options (how odd, to consider Newark convenient) available.

If you don%26#39;t want to be embarrassed in front of clients, don%26#39;t shlep them out to Islip. Do some more investigating. There have got to be some non-stop flights to and from New Orleans from LaGuardia or Newark or JFK. If I was entertaining clients, rather than fly them home on Sunday night from Islip, I%26#39;d stay over and return Monday morning if you can%26#39;t get a better flight out Sunday.
