heading to NYC for the may long weekend for my sister%26#39;s stagette and looking for a hotel close to shopping and sight seeing. We will also have a few older women accompanying us therefore we want to be close to attractions. which hotel would you suggest?
Novotel Times Square or Salsibury Hotel
Neither. Shopping is all over. Sightseeing is all over so you can%26#39;t be near everything in any one place. The Novotel is not a great hotel and the Salisbury while decent, is looking very tattered and in desperate need of a makeover. You won%26#39;t find best prices right now for May so avoid booking anything that%26#39;s not cancelable. These 2 hotels sound like they%26#39;re part of a package or offers from a travel agent. You can do much better.
How many are going and how many rooms do you need? (ie how many people will be sharing each room?)
Novotel Times Square or Salsibury Hotel
Thanks for your prompt response!
We are looking for 2-3 rooms at this point. both hotels were included in a search I did on expedia. any suggestions? We are flying out of Toronto and would ideally like to spend $500 with hotel plus flight. It is for May long weekend - May 15th to 18th.
Do you suggest we wait to book in order to get a deal?
Airfare looks to be ~ $200/person roundtrip. LAN flies from YYZ and the other options at that price are from Buffalo. Is that a problem? That would leave $300/person for hotel for 3 nights or $100/night per person which shouldn%26#39;t be a problem.
It%26#39;s early to book for May and the hotels included in air/hotel packages are often not the best. If you%26#39;re sleeping more than 2 people in each room, air/hotel packages are often not good deals (your hotel options are also limited). How many people will sleep in each room? That makes a big difference in which hotels are appropriate and the price per person. Obviously the more people you put in each room, the lower the price each person pays but that will mean people sharing beds and several women to 1 bathroom. How old are the oldest and what kind of shopping do you want to do? Do you plan on going to the theater at all?
That long weekend is not a holiday here, btw.
We would like to fly out of Toronto - looking at an evening flight as many of the girls have to work that day. I have my eye on a 7:35pm flight out of toronto.
the oldest would be in her 50s. youngst 25.
we are looking to put 3-4 in a room to get the best deal.
would you recommend waiting until feb? mar?
location is important as we would prefer to spend minimal on cabs/subway if possible.
Theatre is def. something we are looking into. any suggestions?
Shopping is in the books as well. We are looking for good deals. would venture down to century 21 on the subway.
It will be the first time to NYC for some of the girls so sight seeing is something we would like to fit in.
I see no 7:35 pm flight from Toronto. What airline and what%26#39;s the price? What time do you want to leave on Mon.?
For 3-4 in a room you should concentrate on hotels that have suites or 2 queen beds. Some ideas include
affinia.com (midtown, all suites and convenient--the Affinia Dumont has an in-house spa which might be nice)
Doubletree Guest Suites (Times Square near theaters)
Embassy Suites (downtown near Century 21)
beaconhotel.com
milburnhotel.com
Hampton Inn Times Square North (which will become a Hilton)
Hilton Garden Inn Times Square
Courtyard Marriott Midtown East
At that time of year, the Hop on/off bus tours are a good idea for first timers.
For theater on a budget, wait and see what you can get on
broadwaybox.com
closer to the time. Mama Mia is popular with female groups but there should be lots to chose from.
I recommend you book something now that%26#39;s cancelable and set up email alerts on sales on quikbook.com and travelzoo.com as well as any hotels that strike your fancy. I really don%26#39;t think an air/hotel package is going to get you best value for money.
PS when you book air/hotel pkgs., they%26#39;re never cancelable w/o a penalty. That doesn%26#39;t allow you to take advantage of sales and given the time til this trip, a lot can happen ato change plans.
Just stayed at the Hampton Inn Times Square on Eighth Avenue. Walked to Theaters, Rockefeller Ctr, Fifth Ave, Central Park. Loved the location. Newly remodeled hotel. Everything was perfect. Great breakfast included. Cannot say enough good things about this hotel. Good for ladies travelling together, couples, for families or for anyone!
I stayed at the Novotel last year and was very impressed. Good location, but I like the touristy TS area! Big rooms for New York to, staff were ok and we paid a great price
The Casablanca on (off) Broadway on West 43rd is far and away the gem in the area and the prices are reasonable.
