Upper Yorkville Suites

I am looking to travel with my husband and 8 year old daughter during the Memorial Day weekend. I called and talked to someone at the Upper Yorkville Suites and they seemed reputable. Does anyone know anything about this place? Please pass on any info you have!

Thanks!!!

Find something else. This is too far north. Put the name of the place in the search box above the green strip. This has been discussed.

Upper Yorkville Suites

What%26#39;s your lodging budget?

The budget is around $215/night for 2 nights.

';Upper Yorkville'; is the euphemism they use because they do not want to admit the neighborhood is really Spanish Harlem. It is a little far, with very limited subway options. It is probably quicker to get to midtown from one of the hotels near Queensborough Plaza in Long Island City in Queens.

Quite Frankly; it is not ';that far up north';. The establishment is one block from the subway station at 103rd and takes you to 42nd street in approx. 8 minutes. I live one subway stop south and believe me it is not that far north.

I walk to 86th street (lots of shopping) in 15 minutes or less. Of course would not recommend it with a 8 year old.

You can take the Lexington Line bus down town (takes longer) You are also close to 2nd and 3rd avenues with Resturants as far as the eyes can see.

You also have Park Avenue (wealthy residential area), Madison Avenue (expensive shopping as far up as 98th street) and 5th (musume mile) Central Park. All within walking distance.

That being said, Upper Yorkville is the name they are calling the area between 96th to 110 street.

There are many reason why they are doing this;

1.The stigma associated with the area is a hard one to break as many uninformed people about the area think it is still stuck 10 years ago. High rise and rising rent is changing this aspect.

2. 96th to 110th street is become extremely expensive with townhouses starting at 1.9 and apartments and condos starting at $350 to $750 a square foot. Calling it Upper Yorkville or Upper Carnegie hill increases the value of the property.

It has been clearly working from what I can see. While I do not totally agree with the association; I do understand the reason for it.

Of course if people on this board are constantly staying it is too far without traveling the actual route, or live here they are certainly not helping the situation.

Secondly, if the establishment is calling themselves Upper Yorkville; it can also be just a name as I have seen places further up like Carnegie deli.

While I do not personally know the establishment, the area is very busy during the day and fairly quiet at night and of course safe.

There is also fairly cheap shopping in the area. The majority of great restaurants, however, is on Lexington Avenue.

A couple of my fav.

El Paso (Spanish), Moustache (Turkish), Giovanni (Italian) and many smaller cafes%26#39;.
