It is #195417, a 1 bedroom apartment on 49th, between 9th and 10th. My parents are planning on booking it for February and my family and I in March. We%26#39;ve used VRBO once before for Las Vegas and had a great experience but I%26#39;m a bit nervous about NYC. Anyone know the area or the apartment itself? Thanks in advance!!! :)
Anyone stay in this apartment at VRBO?
I think there is some info in the FAQ sticky at the top of this forum re renting apt. in NYC

Why would you be nervous if you weren%26#39;t already aware that you were planning on renting an illegal apartment?
Beyond that, this apartment pretty much screams scam. It%26#39;s a studio, for one. The person listing the place can barely spit out a word of English, and does this sound strange at all to you?
';It is located within walking distance of the U.N, Museum Mile, Central Park, Bloomingdale%26#39;s, Times Square, and the 59th/50/42/ st. Subway System (4, 5, 6,) connecting you to the rest of NYC.';
If you%26#39;d looked at a map, I think that you would have realized the subways listed are on the opposite side of town than what you%26#39;re claiming. Not to mention that the ';sites'; listed are nowhere near each other, either.
However, if you%26#39;re still looking to rent that illegal apartment, go right ahead.
';Anyone stay in this apartment at VRBO?';
Yeah, probably the people living there! ;o)
I had a look at the listing and it%26#39;s clear there%26#39;s photos of more than one apartment here, so you can%26#39;t trust that any of the photos actually relate to the apartment you might be renting - if there is any apartment at all.
And $85 a night for 4 people? If it sounds too good to be true, it generally is.
I would run in the other direction and start looking at hotels with apartment style rooms. What are your dates, how many are you and what is your budget?
Walking distance to Bloomingdale%26#39;s from 49th St and 10th Ave? Please!
I have some advice for you, OP: stay in a hotel. Unless you want to give away your hard-earned money to a scam artist, and then come cry about it on this forum.
I completely agree with all of the other posters!
Between 9th and 10th is about as far as you can go on the west side, while the UN is definitely as far as you can go on the east side. Sounds like the person writing the description has never been to NYC. Also, there are clearly mixed photos of differing properties.
Don%26#39;t do it!!!
1) Unless you%26#39;ve given us the wrong #, this is a STUDIO apartment, not a 1 bedroom and it clearly says so.
2) As kateoz says, there are photos from 2 different apts. and it%26#39;s totally unclear which is which.
3) Either looks dreadful to me. The bed is small and squeezed into a space not big enough for both people to get out of it and the other 2 will sleep on a futon sofa.
4) NONE of the dates on the availability calendar are taken except those already past. This suggests no one else is stupid enough to consider renting this place (or it%26#39;s not for real, or owner doesn%26#39;t keep up the calendar so he can scam as many people as possible).
5) Virtually none of the places listed in walking distance are and ironically, those that are, are not listed. This suggests someone with no knowledge of NYC (like a scammer from Africa or Asia) has written this ad.
You shouldn%26#39;t be '; a bit nervous.'; You should be quaking in your boots.
Thanks everyone, for your insight and kind words! With your gracious help and wealth of knowledge, I%26#39;ve been able to make a good decision.
