There are plenty of choices in and around Lake George. They range from chain hotels to independently owned cabins and cottages. FYI - A cottage in Lake George has a kitchen - a cabin does not. Many of these cottages/cabins are directly on the water. This website can give you a thorough list of hotels/motels/cabins/cottages etc - tripadvisor.com misses almost all of the cabin/cottage rentals since they do not fit the criteria to be listed.

Personally I prefer the Bolton Landing area of Lake George over the the Village of Lake George. The Village of Lake George will have more traditional hotels/Motels. Bolton Landing has the Sagamore - but your budget may need to be increased for a stay there.

There are realtors in the area who have private house rentals as well. Some may be large enough for that size group.
