Shared bathroom is not the norm, unless you%26#39;re looking at hotels in the less than $150 per night range. July is usually one of the cheaper months to travel to NYC. Hotels will be cheaper if you include a weekend in your stay.

I will estimate your budget at $2,200 USD. Does this include flights for 2? Does it include meals and shopping?

In general terms, flights cost around $600-$700 round trip each. That would only leave around $800 for 6 nights of accommodation, which is not enough in my opinion.

Average hotel rates in Manhattan are $250-$300 per night, plus tax (about 15%).

If the budget is tight, look into staying at one of the hotels in Long Island City or another area of Queens or Jersey City.

kayak.com

is one place to look for both flights and hotels. They often have a ';chart'; on certain routes of which days of the month are cheapest and the history of the fares on that route for the last 90 days. Typically flying on Tues/Wed/Thurs is cheaper than weekends but not always. You can see that on kayak.

Continental has the most nonstop flights from Manchester and flies into Newark. You will find cheaper prices on flights that require a change of planes. My advice is don%26#39;t do it. It%26#39;s not worth the aggro and hassle and possible loss of luggage. Right now those Continental flights start at ~ 430gbp/person roundtrip.

Many people like to buy air/hotel packages but I%26#39;m not a fan. Usually the cheapest prices include either a naff hotel or bad flights and the hotel options are limited. the other problem with pkgs. is you pay the whole amount upfront and can%26#39;t make changes or cancel (or there%26#39;s a penalty). As the economy is so uncertain and prices could come down, I wouldn%26#39;t book a hotel that%26#39;s not cancelable at this point for July. Quikbook.com %26amp; kayak.com are websites I like for checking hotel prices. I don%26#39;t know what you%26#39;re including in the 1400-1600 pounds for travel. If you mean air and hotel, I think you can certainly do it for 1600. That would mean a hotel for $200/night or less plus tax.

Shared bathrooms are not the norm, only in the very cheapest budget hotels, some of which are very good except for that minor inconvenience.

If you wanted to come at the very beginning of the month to be here for our July 4th celebration, many of the hotels run sales for that time and you%26#39;d have the bonus of seeing the fireworks on the 4th.

I was thinking of 5 nights not 6. At the airfare I found and looking on quikbook at some hotels that are cancelable, the Broadway Plaza and the Affinia Manhattan both have ';book now pay later'; rooms for just under $200/night. As it gets closer to July, you should see sales on travelzoo.com and maybe some of the hotel websites.

thanks for your help and the money is just for travel + accomodation. meals etc etc are extra

but i will look at the sites mentioned and i am afraid cant go to the 4th july, mrs is a school teacher so we have to wait till schools out!
